Update on puppy Macy Clementine (formerly Gracie)

Justin said you wanted to see some pictures of Gracie...we actually changed her name but it is still close to Gracie! Her name is Macy Clementine and we call her Macy and she already knows that it is her name and almost always comes when we call her.

Justin taught her how to sit but she wont do it for anybody else yet. She is settling in great and loves her backyard and visiting her baby cousins. She loves her kennel and only cries for a minute at nighttime and then goes right to sleep. Macy hates the rain!! When we go outside in the rain or if she steps in a puddle she cries and cries to be picked up and tries to hide under us. She loves to play with her toys and chew on everything especially my hands and feet but Justin is training her not to chew on people and she is already doing lots better.

Macy is getting pretty good at housetraining. We spend most of the day in the mornings and after work outside with her and she has so much fun that she forgets to go until we are back inside. Then she tries to go in the house but I just grab her quick and go right back outside before she can.

I think she is really understanding because she has started to run to the door and cry a little after she eats or drinks. She still doesnt like her collar at all and when she has a leash on she refuses to walk and just sits down and chews on it.

Without a leash she walks right next to us though so I think when she is a little bigger she will catch on to the leash pretty quick.

Overall everything is going great! She is smart and playful and so cute and our sweet tiny girl and we LOVE HER!

Update on Moose (formerly known as Tank)

I just wanted to let you know that Moose (we changed his name to match how graceful he is haha) was neutered and microchiped yesterday by Dr. Heartsill at Downtown Animal Hospital. He also now has all of his shots.

He is doing great. We made our first long car trip with him last weekend (10 hours each way), stayed in a hotel, and at my parents house where he got to play with my parent’s dog all weekend. He was a very well behaved boy.

He and Wiggles are doing well. Moose will even sit and watch Wiggles eat his dog food, he is very good at sharing. Although they are still getting used to each other and I am trying to discourage both of them from chasing the other.

We started obedience classes with Elta Woodliff about a month ago and he has so much fun. He has learned sit, lay down, roll over, stay (sometimes, we’re still working on that one), and leave it.

Let me know if you need a receipt for the neuter or a note from the vet.

Mae & Rachel - "We're doing great!"

We're doing great! I love her so much and can't imagine life without her. We went to the beach today, her favorite place (she has no idea what to think about seaweed). It's starting to get warm out up here (finally) and I can't wait to take her with me on more adventures.
She's such a good girl, surprisingly well behaved. We only did one private training class and I've continued what we learned. She's very smart. I take her almost everywhere I go and she stays right with me. Everyone says she's a "mama's girl." Due to that, I haven't been able to leave her home alone. She freaks out when I leave her alone. So she goes to doggy daycare when I work, and I'm moving to a bigger place at the end of the month where she can have more space and there won't be neighbors to hear her barks. The crate really distresses her, so I don't want to use it.
I'm so grateful to have Mae, she has definitely changed my life for the better. I thank you so much down there for saving her for me. It makes me tear up when I think about what you all did for her. I love her so much.

"We're doing great! I absolutely love her and she's quickly getting comfortable with me. She's nervous on walks when we walk past other people on sidewalks but she is already getting better with that and also she loves the snow (which is great because we have plenty!) I set up a private training class for her Thursday night. I think a group class might be too distracting for her at first. I'm loving getting to know her. She's amazing :) "

After recently loosing our dear "Furry Family Member", I knew our hearts were ready for a new dog. I started looking on the internet for what I thought might be the best fit for our family. I came across a face that I just knew I could love-"Brownie". I made the call to "Dogs 2nd Chance" and took the family to one of their adoption days. "Brownie " just warmed our hearts. My two kids pleaded, "Daddy can we take her home?" Well, that was it, our new Pet Kid.

She has been perfect from day one. She is completely house trained, plays with the kids outside, sleeps in her bed through the night, doesn't chew-up anything she's not supposed to, and is an excellent walker. I told my husband, "she must have had a session with the Dog Whisper."

We look forward to her living out happy days with our family. I believe that a dog chooses "you" , and the love of a rescued dog is like no other,.

He s trained to go outside when he needs to.Last Sat.we took him to the ocean beach.He was walking the sand dunes , chasing the seagulls, running around,had a good time there .Today he is playing with the snow .he likes to play and is very friendly ... Dog of the week: Rover!

My name is Rover and my foster mom found me with my tail very badly skinned. Someone thought they could dock my tail with a wire wrapped around my base. I had to have my whole tail amputated but I still can wag my butt - which I do alot! I am overall a happy boy. I am a yellow lab mix, I guess. I will play Frisbee all day long and catch it in mid-air and seem to have some kind of agility trianing. I love to hear the crunch of milk jugs. I am energetic and love to play, and I sit and shake on command. I really love people, a lot. I weigh about 65 lbs, have been neutered, heartworm treated and on preventative. I have had all my shots, too. I need a big yard or lots of trips to the park for exercise. I don't try to escape the fence, I just love to dig and lay in my self-made puddles. But I somehow seem to stay reasonably clean. Amazes my foster mom. I go into my kennel with a treat, and am mostly house trained. I will walk on a leash, but need more practice. Thanks for giving me a look. Maybe there is someone (you maybe?) who needs a big fur guy for a friend and is willing to help me learn to be a good dog? Please contact the nice rescue people about me - I would love to meet you. Bring a frisbee!!

Dogs of the week: Honey & Lilly!

This week we're doing (2) dog's of the week. They are sisters and are perfect for each other. They do everything together, and CAN be adopted out separately.

HONEY

I am just a sweet puppy and not yet full grown. I am all black with a pretty white stripe on my chest. I absolutely love the lake and will go in just to swim or to chase things. I am a very fast runner and I think I am pretty smart. I can learn new commands pretty easily. I love other dogs, children and pretty much anyone who will stop to scratch my ears. I really would like to settle down somewhere with a forever owner. I haved moved around a lot and would really love to stay in one place. Please let me come to your house.

**UPDATE**

Honey is living outside right now with several other dogs. With the temperatures below freezing, she could really use an indoor foster home. A forever home would be even better. But if you can, please consider fostering this poor girl. She is still a puppy @ only 9 months old. Please help Honeysuckle.

LILLY

I am a playful puppy and enjoyed the church fair very much. My foster mom let me walk around on the leash with at least 4 or 5 of the children that were there. I got to visit with everyone and did not bark at anyone. They were all so nice and scratched me from head to foot. Next to loving to be around people is my love for the water. I used to swim or play in the lake every day until I moved. Then I had to move again. I would love to be a partner for someone who would give me a forever home. I am so tired of moving around! Please adopt me to a forever home soon!

Buster adopted

Buster was one of our 1st fosters. He was a young stray in a not so good part of Memphis in the fall of 2007. He came with some shy and fear issues. He was overlooked many times due to his fear.
In August of 2009 he was accepted into the Death Row Dogs program in KY. This is a program where the dogs live with prisoners, go through basic training and graduate with the Canine Good citizen Certificate. We felt this program would help Buster with his issues. He came home more fearful than before and Fred and I decided Buster needed to become a permanent part of our family.
We tell him it took him 2 years and prison to get on the couch which is where he stays 90% of the time. He is happy and so are we to have him as a permanent part of our pack!

Dog of the week: Tyson

Tyson is a handsome 2yo male lab mix who was rescued as a stray in Memphis. He has a medium activity level, goes outside to do his business, plays a little bit, then wants to come back inside. Likes to go for walks, loves to be with people, enjoys being petted and brushed. There are no children in his foster home so, although gentle, Tyson is recommended for children 12 years and older. Good with cats and other dogs, but he prefers humans so he would do fine as an only dog. Good on a leash, knows basic commands, very good inside manners. Completely housebroken, crate-trained but we never crate him because he is great in the house, never has accidents, never bothers anything. Tyson is a little shy with new people but warms up quickly and we expect to see this shyness diminish as his socialization continues. No issues such as separation anxiety, counter surfing or barking. Weighs about 50#, healthy, altered and utd on shots.

Tyson desperately needs a new foster home, his current foster is starting a new job and will be out of town for extended periods of time. Please, if you can help Tyson on his journey to his forever home, let us know! Thanks!!

We've just celebrated our 5 month birthday and it was a blast! We are Labrador mix and we should weigh around 40-50lbs once full grown. We love our foster home, it's so much fun there, but we're really looking for our forever homes ya know? We're very good babies and we know our manners very well. Dog of the week: Tippy!

Tippy is a lovable little spit fire. Due to her breed type, she is independent at times, but loves nothing more than to be with her person. She has a relatively high activity level, so couch potato would only apply after a walk or a play session. She enjoys playing games and is great with all dogs. She will make a great family pet, but I wouldn't place her with small children due to her activity level. She doesn't understand that running by someone might just knock them over. She would be a great apartment dog and one that you could take places with you. She enjoys being the center of attention, and also loves new things. The picture doesn't do her justice at all. She is absolutely beautiful!! She will make someone a very good catch. She is 1 1/2yrs, 30lbs of muscle, and 17 inches at the shoulder.

*Tippy was trained in a prison dog program at the GRCC. This is a 3 month training program called "death row dogs." The dogs are crate trained, house broken, taught basic obedience and leash trained. These dogs are all up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, as well as temperament tested to know what situation the dog will fit most easily into.*

This is Tippy on Halloween, who says dogs can't have a little fun too? This picture was taken right before she received her Canine Good Citizen certificate from the death row dogs program. Dog of the week: Bo!!

My name is Bo. As you can see, I like to go shopping at the local Tractor Supply store. I am about 6 years old and weigh 30 pounds. They say I am a Peagle, a mix between a Beagle and a Pekingese. I may also ahave a hint of Shepherd. I have some characteristics of both breeds; and since both make good pets, I do well in a family. I love attention or can hang on my own. Overall I've been told I am a great dog and a true blessing, I just got returned to D2C from a great family because their child had allergies - so if you have allergies I may not be the best dog for you! Please consider me though, I do hope my forever family will find me soon....

Dog of the week: JULY!

My sister June is kind of quiet compared to me. I like to rough and tumble a little (I am a boy after all!), but I sure love my tummy scratched. And I will sit quietly at your feet if you want to scratch my head. I get along with other dogs, but have yet to be introduced to cats. I love children of all ages and ride very quietly in the car (I sleep). I am black and white with very attractive markings - if I do say so myself. It is interesting that the black spot on my back has short, wavy hair which makes me all the more attractive. I love people and other dogs - oh, and children too. I am learning not to jump on humans - they don't seem to like it. But it is really hard because I am SO happy to see company. My sister is June. At least we think so because we were dumped at the same spot and rescued by the same lady. I was very skinny, but stronger than June. She has about caught up to me in size, but I am still a little bigger. My foster Mom is nice, but I know I cannot stay here. Would you consider giving me a forever home? I would love you and be your friend forever!!!

Dog of the Week: June

Hi! I'm June! I am a very quiet kind of dog and love to sit on your lap and just be stroked. I do like to play with my brother and another friend called , Nova. I have lots of pep and vinegar and can hold my own if I need too, but basically I am a lover of people and their laps. I get along with other dogs fine, but really have not been introduced to cats - which I hear are fun to chase. However, I'd have to think twice before I chased a full grown cat, as I hear they can hold their own with small dogs.

I am an all black puppy that was so feeble when I was rescued that I had to be taught to eat. But this nice lady saved me and fed me with a syringe for days until I could chew and swallow well. She was really nice, Now I am the perfect puppy figure! And my new foster Mom says I am the sweetest of the pair. I will just sit by her chair while she pets me and I don't jump too much anymore. I am learning that humans do not like that too much. I am not bad about chewing either - but I do LOVE loving! I went to the festival too and walked with many children. I like everyone, but I sure got tired. I also like other dogs and will play with just about anyone. I really need a forever home with loving folks. Please adopt me!

Dog of the Week: Buster

Buster is a Death Row Dog - he has being trained in a prison dog program at the GRCC. This is a 3 month training program. The Death Row Dog Program teaches dogs crate training, basic obedience, leash training, and they are house broken. These dogs are all up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, as well as temperament tested to know what situation the dog will fit most easily into. Buster has graduated the program and has a Canine Good Citizen Certification.

Buster did great! Fear for him is becoming a thing of the past. High traffic areas are still a bit scary, but for the most part, he is a happy dog. He has found training to be fun, and he does it at his own pokey pace...no rushing around for this guy. His motto would be stop and smell the flowers. A remarkable change in his outlook!

Buster did not have the best beginnings. Found huddled next to an air conditioner unit and terrified as a puppy, it molded his idea of people. Luckily for Buster he has a very patient set of trainers. He was very wary at first, but as time is progressing he is coming out of his scared dog shell and becoming more sociable. He loves attention, but does not beg for it. He came into class this week wagging his tail and ready to show what he knew. His training will be a lot of confidence building and bonding, but he has come so far so quickly, I don't foresee any problems with this guy. He loves to play with the other dogs. He would make a great family dog. He wants to love you, just has to know you will love him back and not hurt him. The scars run deep because they happened as a pup, but he is proving the past is in the past and stepping up and trying a new way of doing things. He is a sweet boy. 2yrs,65lbs, and 21 inches at the shoulder.

Calling all adoptive dog parents!!! The Happy Tails Books are looking for rescue stories of Boxers, German Shepherds, Chihuahuas, and Pugs. Please see their website for more information.

Here's a brief description of what they want you to share:

Share a "Tail"

Let's honor your wonderful adopted dogs by featuring their stories in a book! We have many "Lost Souls: Found!" books in the works, so regardless of your dog's breed, we want to hear about them!

You can submit information for one of several sections in our books. Longer stories (600-1200 words, please!) will be considered for features. Shorter stories, preferably no more than a paragraph in length, will be considered for our "Even Shorter Stories" section. For this section you can tell us a funny or heartwarming anecdote about your dog, or describe a challenge you had with your dog and how you overcame it. We are also open to poems, recipes, and of course, great photos.

It is not necessary that your dog came from a rescue group. The only stories we will not consider are those about dogs who were bought from a breeder or pet store. (Note: We have nothing against responsible private breeders - in fact we hope for a day when they are the only ones breeding dogs - their dogs are just not appropriate for the focus of these books.)

Mixed-breed dogs are welcome, too! We like to include some stories of mixed-breed dogs in our "Lost Souls: Found!" books - just let us know what your dog's dominant breed is.

Have more than one adopted dog? Tell us about them all!

The best stories are emotional. They make the reader laugh and/or cry. They generally begin with a problem (often the dog is in a bad situation), involve some kind of rescue situation, there are some ups and downs including one main crux, and then the story is resolved and everyone lives happily ever after. This is NOT always the pattern, but most stories that are accepted for the books resemble this pattern to some extent.

Ernie likes the snow...as long as it is already on the ground and not falling from the sky. I took him out this morning, we had about 3 inches of snow in the night. He ran and danced and made snow angels. Now I am not sure, being from a place with little or no snow if you know what a snow angelis, so bear with me. It is when you fall back into the snow and move your arms and legs against the snow back and forth. This leaves an impression in the snow that looks like the outline of an angel. Well, Ernie kept throwing himself into the snow and laying on his side and moving his legs like he was running. I am not sure what that was all about but it reminded me of making snow angels as a kid. I sent pictures this time.

Ernie has decided he likes toys. He has a whole basket of them. Periodically, he will take them all out and spread the all over the living room. The room ends up looking like a class of wild preschoolers had been there. He doesn't destroy them, he just throws them around. Until today...I guess he liked the snow so much, he tried to make his own!

Dog of the Week: Death Row Dogs

If you're familiar with Dogs 2nd Chance, you may be aware of the Death Row Dogs program at the Green River Correctional Complex in Central City, KY. In this program dogs that have been in a shelter or with fosters for a long time and continuously overlooked are given the opportunity to train at the prison facility with the inmates. Dogs spend three months their in training and are fully vetted an cared for. Here is one news story from Kentucky about this program.

The current Death Row Dogs class has 15 of the 20 participants from the Mid South area, either from Dogs 2nd Chance, or CARES. This time, however, there are not as many adoption applications for these wonderful dogs. We need your help! If you were thinking about a dog this winter, please consider a fully trained, wonderful dog from this program. You can read more about it at the McMuttigan's website.

Here are the photos from Class 26. Click on a picture to check out the personalities of these adoptable dogs! There are indications of which are available. If they are not adopted, these dogs will have to return to the rescue organizations, and unfortunately, we have little room or time to keep up their training. Please find yourself a wonderful new addition to your family!

Foster Friday: Lin

This week we will meet Lin, another Dogs 2nd Chance amazing foster. Lin, a legal assistant specializing in bankruptcy and family law, got involved with Dogs 2nd Chance in July of 2008. Her first foster was Sweetie, an older beagle mix, who ended up becoming part of Lin’s family. Since that time she has fostered over 20 dogs!! Wow!

Lin enjoys fostering because of the satisfaction she feels when a sad, lonely pup goes to a loving caring home. She comments, “Even those we get as pups, could have very well ended up in a life of misery, so even though they have never known hunger and neglect, it is still a good feeling to know they will be cared for.”

Lin has lived all over the US including Alaska, Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and now Millington, TN where she, her son, her grandson, and 12 dogs reside.

Her most memorable dog, Hercules, is now in the prison program and may become a therapy dog. Hercules was a lovable, gangly 8 month old golden lab mix puppy who wanted to learn and be loved. Sounds like he found the perfect spot!

Currently Lin is fostering KD and Rover. KD is an older Finish Spitz/Chow mix and very mellow.

Rover is a golden lab mix who you may have heard about if you are familiar with the Dogs 2nd Chance organization. Rover is the dog who had a rubber band wrapped around his tail, which he ended up skinning. Poor buddy had to have his tail amputated at the base of the spine! He is still very very active and loves people. He would be good in a single dog home since he’s not too fond of other dogs.

Puppies!!!

We have some new babies in the Dogs 2nd Chance foster network. An expecting mother American Staffordshire Terrier showed up on a caring foster's doorstep five weeks ago. A week later she had four healthy baby boys, one of which has already been adopted! Momma has also found a forever home. Let us know if you are interested in a puppy for Christmas, but PLEASE do your research! We don't want these baby boys to face the same fate as their mother after Christmas time.

Foster Friday: Chester

Hi all. This is a new weekly feature for the Dogs 2nd Chance blog. We'd like to recognize the volunteer fosters and all they do for the abandoned animals. Join me every Friday as I feature a new volunteer foster from Dogs 2nd Chance.

This week we’ll meet Chester. Chester has been involved with dog rescue for 27 years! Way to go Chester!!! He has rescued dogs in many states including Texas, Kansas, Mississippi and Arkansas and has been involved with many groups, the first of which was Chihuahua Transport and Rescue.

His love for animals and faith that they can be helped began when he was six years old while living in the country with his grandparents. Chester recalls, “My dog at the time was a Shepherd mix, Bullet. He was hit by a car and all 4 legs were broken and in most cases back then that was a death sentence, not with my grandfather. He staked out 4 poles and stretched out a minnow sein across these. He then put Bullet in the middle of the sein where his paws did not touch the ground. He gave him something for pain and don't know what that was. He crawled under the sein and straightened out Bullets legs as best he could. Bullet was watered and fed this way. After about a month, he let the sein down; Bullet could walk and later on was running. This set the stage for my love of animals.”

Chester is a long-time musician who also loves to fish and camp. He currently fosters Lady Bug, Angel, and Betsy. If you'd be interested in giving one of these dogs a forever home, please fill out an adoption application here.

Dogs 2nd Chance works with a group in New England who transports dogs awaiting forever homes in the southern states to new homes in the New England area. This organization, Happy Dogs of New England has been transporting southern dogs weekly for adoptions in New Hampshire.

The latest happy tail comes to us from a couple in New England who adopted Diesel from this transport. We hope Chelsea, Thomas, and Diesel have a Happy Thanksgiving! Here's a short note and pictures from Chelsea and Thomas:

Hey everyone!! It's Chelsea and Thomas. We just wanted to share with everyone our cute little furry addition to our little family. His name is Diesel. He was born on September 5Th, so he's just about 11 weeks old. We picked him up just yesterday from a shelter in TN that transfers pups up to the New England area every Saturday. We love him so much already and we know that love will only grow.

Dog of the Week: Hansel

Phew, I'm tired from playing all day in the fall leaves with my two-legged foster brother and sister! Oh, hi! My name is Hansel, I'm about eight months old, and I've had quite an eventful start to my life. Since I was found, I've been with such caring people at Dogs 2nd Chance. They've treated me and my sister Gretel for mange and helped Gretel get adopted! If you want some history click here, but we were kinda ugly back then with no hair.

At my foster home I enjoy playing with my 3 and 6 year old two-legged brother and sister, and trotting along with the 3 year old when he rides his bike. I've figured out the housetraining and hang out only on this one chair. My foster mom is so nice to let me be on one piece of big people furniture! We also have one cat at my foster house, but I leave him alone. I love the other dogs that live with me and we play together a lot.

I'm really excited to be adopted and go to my forever home! I just have so much love to give and I am so excited about my second chance for a good life! Please let Dogs 2nd Chance know you want to adopt me. I will love you forever! Here's the link to the adoption form on dogs2ndchance.org.

Canine Heartworms

Anyone who has ever worked with dog rescue knows heartworm disease in canines is a prevalent problem. If you need convincing, just take a look at the sidebar’s scrolling pictures of all the dogs in Dogs 2nd Chance who are heartworm positive in 2009. And this is just one rescue organization!

Heartworms are transmitted to dogs by mosquitoes. If you live in the Memphis area you know we still have mosquitoes buzzing around even this late into November. You can imagine then why it is so important to use heartworm preventative year-round. However, for many dogs who end up needing rescue, monthly heartworm prevention is not available to them. This is why so many of Dogs 2nd Chance rescues are heartworm positive.

Benjamin Franklin was correct when he said, An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Heartworm disease is the perfect canine example! While it may cost up to $80 / year for parasite protection depending a dog’s weight, treating the disease can cost $1000 or more and involves a lot of patience on the part of the caregiver and dog. A dog being treated for heartworm must be kept in a low-stress, low-activity environment until the heartworm remains have passed through the dog's body.

You can imagine the expense for a rescue organization with many heartworm positive dogs, and why each one of these dogs needs a sponsor!

Good news though! Once a dog has been treated for heartworm and has started the monthly preventative, he is just as much an adoptable dog than any other Dogs 2nd Chance dog!

Hansel & Gretel

Hansel and Gretel were abandoned, most likely thrown away like trash. They were befriended by a nice man and woman that started feeding them, caring for them the best the could. They knew the pups needed medical attention and reached out to the email rescue network in the Memphis area. Someone told them "just take them to the shelter". But Manny & Elkie knew that was a death sentence for sure.

They continued to care for the pups and waited a week or so and tried the email community again. This time several strangers banded together with the couple and got them to Northgate Animal Hospital.
They are safe, dry and have beed diagnosed with advance demodetic mange. Although not contagious, it must be very painful in this advanced stage. They have been started on antibiotics and will need daily medication for months. Dr Gullett stated they would not have survived another month without treatment. Their prognosis is good, but they have a long row to hoe. It will be winter before they have much hair and be ready for adoption.
Thank you Manny and Elke for helping these abandoned babies. Thank you Gwen for getting me involved. Thank you Janice, Leslie, Taylor and Teresa for your offers to help. Thank you Dr Gullett and staff at Northgate for caring for these castaways.

Hi all!
As you can see we are not current with our blog.
We need a Volunteer to maintain & keep current. I can barely keep myself current.
There are many wonderful things happening with our dogs. We are now working with 4 rescue groups from New England placing some of our dogs in wonderful, loving, permanent homes. I hope to soon post some pictures of their new families.
We also have 9 dogs that with be going through the Death Row Dogs program at the Green River Correctional Complex in Center, City Kentucky. Racer & Pumkin will graduate this program Wednesday August 19th and then meet Port-a-Pups Transport on Thursday to go to their new home, an 80 acre farm/orchard in the mountains of New Hampshire. Our sister rescue C.A.R.E. will also be sending 3 dogs. We will also be transporting a few dogs from other rescues for a total of 16-18 dogs. If you would like to join our little caravan to Kentucky & transport a few dogs, please email me @ dogs2ndchance@gmail.com. We will be leaving Monday morning August the 24th.

Dogs 2ndnd Chance, a local non profit dog rescue organization will be having an End of Spring Fling June 20thth from 9am-5pm at 9991 Idaville Road, Atoka. It is located on the corner of Hwy 14 and Idaville Road near the Tipton/Shelby County line. They will have a mini flea market, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo and more. There will be food and fun for all! Dogs 2ndnd Chance will also host a meet and greet with some of their adoptable, rescued dogs.
Bring your dogs out from 2pm-5pm for a bath and rabies vaccine, lovingly given but Dr Tracy Gullett and her staff from Northgate Animal Hospital.
All proceeds and donations will go to offset their never ending Vet bills for their rescued, adoptable dogs.
Many of the adoptable dogs can be seen at http://dogs2ndchance.org All dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccines and any medical needs taken care of before being available for adoption. Please come out and support this local 501[c]3 public charity. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Spay and Neuter your pets

As well all know the stray animal population in Memphis and the surrounding area is growing every day. With tough economic time more people are giving up on their pets. Many of the animal shelters are filled to capacity. Many people will simple put their pets out on the street. This is very sad and it's hard to believe that anyone could do such a thing. That is why it is so important to spay and neuter your pets. There are a number of places in Memphis that offer low cost spaying and neutering.

Northgate Animal Hospital is currently offering a $50.00 special for Spaying/Neutering for the month of June. It is required that your pet is up to date on their vaccinations.

The Mid-South Spay & Neuter Services will spay/neuter feral cats for $25. If you find a stray cat in your neighborhood please consider making this small sacrifice. It can great reduce the stray cat population.

Mid-South Spay & Neuter Services has a special this month on neutering for male cats for $20. Call (901) 324-3202 to schedule an appointment. (Leave a message as they are in surgery all day)

Spring Fling

Mark your calendars for June 20th. Stephanie Mitchell has been gracious in hosting a Spring Fling fund raising event for Dogs 2nd Chance at her farm (see map below). It will be a day of fun with a mini flea market, face painting, pony rides, possible petting zoo, concessions [hot dogs, drinks,chips etc] and of course, our guests of honor, the dogs who are looking for a forever home.

We are looking for volunteers for this event so if you would like to know more, volunteer, or have some great ideas for this event, please email Stephanie Mitchell. We look forward to seeing you there!
