Dog of the week: Bo!!

My name is Bo. As you can see, I like to go shopping at the local Tractor Supply store. I am about 6 years old and weigh 30 pounds.  They say I am  a Peagle, a  mix between a Beagle and a Pekingese. I may also ahave a hint of Shepherd.  I have some characteristics of both  breeds; and since both make good pets, I do well in a family. I love attention or can hang on my own. Overall I've been told I am a great dog and a true blessing, I just got returned to D2C from a great family because their child had allergies - so if you have allergies I may not be the best dog for you! Please consider me though, I do hope my forever family will find me soon....

Dog of the week: JULY!

My sister June is kind of quiet compared to me. I like to rough and tumble a little (I am a boy after all!), but I sure love my tummy scratched. And I will sit quietly at your feet if you want to scratch my head. I get along with other dogs, but have yet to be introduced to cats. I love children of all ages and ride very quietly in the car (I sleep). I am black and white with very attractive markings - if I do say so myself. It is interesting that the black spot on my back has short, wavy hair which makes me all the more attractive. I love people and other dogs - oh, and children too. I am learning not to jump on humans - they don't seem to like it. But it is really hard because I am SO happy to see company. My sister is June. At least we think so because we were dumped at the same spot and rescued by the same lady. I was very skinny, but stronger than June. She has about caught up to me in size, but I am still a little bigger. My foster Mom is nice, but I know I cannot stay here. Would you consider giving me a forever home? I would love you and be your friend forever!!!

Dog of the Week: June

Hi! I'm June!  I am a very quiet kind of dog and love to sit on your lap and just be stroked.  I do like to play with my brother and another friend called , Nova.  I have lots of pep and vinegar and can hold my own if I need too, but basically I am a lover of people and their laps.  I get along with other dogs fine, but really have not been introduced to cats - which I hear are fun to chase.  However, I'd have to think twice before I chased a full grown cat, as I hear they can hold their own with small dogs.

I am an all black puppy that was so feeble when I was rescued that I had to be taught to eat.  But this nice lady saved me and fed me with a syringe for days until I could chew and swallow well.  She was really nice,  Now I am the perfect puppy figure!  And my new foster Mom says I am the sweetest of the pair.  I will just sit by her chair while she pets me and I don't jump too much anymore.  I am learning that humans do not like that too much.  I am not bad about chewing either - but I do LOVE loving!  I went to the festival too and walked with many children.  I like everyone, but I sure got tired.  I also like other dogs and will play with just about anyone.  I really need a forever home with loving folks.  Please adopt me!

Dog of the Week: Buster

Buster is a Death Row Dog - he has being trained in a prison dog program at the GRCC. This is a 3 month training program. The Death Row Dog Program teaches dogs crate training,  basic obedience, leash training, and they are house broken. These dogs are all up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, as well as temperament tested to know what situation the dog will fit most easily into. Buster has graduated the program and has a Canine Good Citizen Certification. 


Buster did great! Fear for him is becoming a thing of the past. High traffic areas are still a bit scary, but for the most part, he is a happy dog. He has found training to be fun, and he does it at his own pokey pace...no rushing around for this guy. His motto would be stop and smell the flowers. A remarkable change in his outlook! 

Buster did not have the best beginnings. Found huddled next to an air conditioner unit and terrified as a puppy, it molded his idea of people. Luckily for Buster he has a very patient set of trainers. He was very wary at first, but as time is progressing he is coming out of his scared dog shell and becoming more sociable. He loves attention, but does not beg for it. He came into class this week wagging his tail and ready to show what he knew. His training will be a lot of confidence building and bonding, but he has come so far so quickly, I don't foresee any problems with this guy. He loves to play with the other dogs. He would make a great family dog. He wants to love you, just has to know you will love him back and not hurt him. The scars run deep because they happened as a pup, but he is proving the past is in the past and stepping up and trying a new way of doing things. He is a sweet boy. 2yrs,65lbs, and 21 inches at the shoulder.

Happy Tails - A Book!

Calling all adoptive dog parents!!! The Happy Tails Books are looking for rescue stories of Boxers, German Shepherds, Chihuahuas, and Pugs. Please see their website for more information.

Here's a brief description of what they want you to share:

Share a "Tail"

Let's honor your wonderful adopted dogs by featuring their stories in a book! We have many "Lost Souls: Found!" books in the works, so regardless of your dog's breed, we want to hear about them!

You can submit information for one of several sections in our books. Longer stories (600-1200 words, please!) will be considered for features. Shorter stories, preferably no more than a paragraph in length, will be considered for our "Even Shorter Stories" section. For this section you can tell us a funny or heartwarming anecdote about your dog, or describe a challenge you had with your dog and how you overcame it. We are also open to poems, recipes, and of course, great photos.

It is not necessary that your dog came from a rescue group. The only stories we will not consider are those about dogs who were bought from a breeder or pet store. (Note: We have nothing against responsible private breeders - in fact we hope for a day when they are the only ones breeding dogs - their dogs are just not appropriate for the focus of these books.)

Mixed-breed dogs are welcome, too! We like to include some stories of mixed-breed dogs in our "Lost Souls: Found!" books - just let us know what your dog's dominant breed is.

The best stories are emotional. They make the reader laugh and/or cry. They generally begin with a problem (often the dog is in a bad situation), involve some kind of rescue situation, there are some ups and downs including one main crux, and then the story is resolved and everyone lives happily ever after. This is NOT always the pattern, but most stories that are accepted for the books resemble this pattern to some extent.
